Michael McGarty

I started the Harvard Community Theatre when the new 700 seat Cronin Auditorium was constructed in 1989 and the old lecture hall became computer labs. The theatre was broken into four groups, including the Drama Society, Middle School Drama Club, the Harvard Community Theatre for adult actors and the Children's theatre which performed plays for young audiences (run for a time by Jenn Robb and Doug Cregar). It's had a huge amount of success over the years including both the Drama Society and the Community Theatre winning their separate state festivals last year. I continue to teach whatever the administration throws at me: French, Journalism (I run the Bromfield Mirror now), Media Arts, Computer Technology, English, Acting and Tech Theatre. I coach the Academic Bowl team which has made the National Finals competition every year for the past 10 years.

My wife Maryellen now teaches 8th grade American History at Bromfield. We live in Harvard and our daughter, Caitlin who was born during your Senior year is now a Sophomore at Tufts University majoring in Arts Management.(The apple doesn't fall far from the tree)

2002 Drama Society cast on the John Hancock stage just after they'd won the state festival.
