Kim James Mason

After I left Bromfield, halfway through Junior year, I hated my new school in Illinois (actually didn't think much of the entire state), so I finished highschool that year & got out of dodge. Having not prepared for the rush of it all, I decided to go straight to college & enrolled at Western KY Univ in Bowling Green, intending to transfer to after the first semester. Wound up staying and dragging out my adolescence by remaining in school as long as possible, partying more than studying. I finished postgraduate classwork in Sociology w/ emphasis on Criminology/Deviant Behavior (undergrad was Psych/Soc). But then before finishing my thesis, I got married & started having babies and never completed it.

Marriage was a real bad trip, but guess I'll be lucky if it turns out to be the worst thing that ever happens to me!
In the aftermath of that I found myself a single mother of three, wanting to be a stay at home mom and avoid the 9 to 5 world and uncomfortable shoes. Finally, I saw the need for a local entertainment magazine & in 1995 I took my tax refund & bought a computer to start a homebased business.

The Amplifier is a monthly tabloid size newspaper that features arts & entertainment in south central Kentucky. The mainpoint is giving local people their 15 minutes & promoting events through a free calendar. I've also over the years begun doing outside jobs designing promotional materials like brochures & websites.

For the last couple of years I also have been hired as Executive Director for the local International Festival.
I usually have one or two volunteer positions going, my favorites have been Cub Scouts and Children in the Park, a performing arts organization for kids. I usually volunteer for behind the scenes jobs doing organization, newsletters, photography or websites.

My kids are Matthew 12, Katelyn 11 and Jessica 6. I still blame them for making me fat, but the truth is, it's such a comfortable place to rest a drink, I just never bothered to try and lose it. Unlike JC, I keep at least one TV on during all waking hours, usually tuned to a movie. I work mostly at night and rarely venture out except for the occasional weekend camping or exploring a local festival (where we stay from open to close). We are very loud family and constantly pick on each other, but we are each others best friends and do everything together. Haven't used a babysitter in years. We mostly hang out, dig around the yard and sing really bad karaoke in the living room. A couple times a year we go to SC to my parents to tube and ski on the lake for a week or two. My brother come from Cincinattie to ride with us and my sister brings her husband and two kids from their home in Germany.

We recently lost our dog Walter, she was 13. Now we have a crazy new pup the kids named Sergio. The ad said he was German Shepard mix, but he looks like a hound dog to me.
